These gray days we keep having weigh down my spirit and make me feel like this is a good

Time to Be Slow

to relax and replenish. No need for to-do lists or busyness. Better to lie low and curl up with a good book. This quiet in-between time is a gift I think, giving my spirit time to relax and replenish. As I sit at my computer and write this morning snow is falling outside. The birds that usually flock to the bird feeders outside my office window are nowhere to be seen. They are nestled in some protected place, staying warm and waiting out the snowstorm.

This is the Time to Be Slow

This is the time to be slow,
Lie low to the wall
Until the bitter weather passes.

Try, as best you can, not to let
The wire brush of doubt
Scrape from your heart
All sense of yourself
And your hesitant light.

If you remain generous,
Time will come good;
And you will find your feet
Again on fresh pastures of promise,
Where the air will be kind
And blushed with beginning.

— John O’Donohue

There is something quiet and calming about watching the snow gently fall outside my window. I can sit here and see it’s beauty without worrying about driving on slippery roads or shivering with cold. It is a great gift to be here now in this moment, alive, seeing the beauty of this moment.

A spiritual teacher I once knew used to say, “All you have to do is fill up and hang around.” That’s what I’m doing today, filling up with the grace and beauty of gently falling snow outside my window and hanging around enjoying each moment.

Do you too relish this time to be slow? And are you filling up and hanging around?

May you walk in beauty.
