I believe that we are all artists, creators, and makers. As a child I spent countless hours making things, drawing, and creating for the sheer joy of it. For me making photographs is a expression of the same internal need to create that I felt as a child.

When I see someone using her hands to make something, it touches something universal and deep in my soul. By photographing makers making things I seek to reveal a small portion of the inward journey of the maker’s spirit.

I was inspired to begin my Makers’ Hands series of photographing makers hands at work after becoming mesmerized photographing a potter throwing a pot on the wheel. The sensuous shapes and forms of her hands combining with the clay she was shaping were compelling and beautiful.
