I love the morning light on the pond! Ice covered pond early this morning

Each morning when I wake up, I open the bedroom shades and look out at the

Morning Light on the Pond

seeing whether the day will be bright or cloudy, windy or still. Some mornings the view is so gorgeous that I head out to the living room in my nightgown to photograph the beauty of the moment through the large windows that overlook the pond. This morning was one of those mornings.

The light changes so quickly that a beautifully lit scene can turn into a dull lifeless scene in just a minute or two. Several recent sunsets have also been gorgeous. Sometimes I pick up my camera to photograph the colorful sky and pond reflections. But more often I simply sit and soak in the beauty.

This morning’s beauty has motivated me to plan to make an effort to get up before sunrise tomorrow and go somewhere with my camera. Though I often resist the effort (it’s so easy to be lazy and sleep in!), when I do make the effort to be out to photograph at sunrise I am always glad did, even if the sunrise seems like nothing special. It just feels good to watch the world wake up.

Each Moment Matters

Savor the moments my friends. They are all we have. And they can slip through our fingers like water if we are not present and awake to their beauty.

Thank You
If you find yourself half naked
and barefoot in the frosty grass, hearing,
again, the earth’s great, sonorous moan that says
you are the air of the now and gone, that says
all you love will turn to dust,
and will meet you there, do not
raise your fist. Do not raise
your small voice against it. And do not
take cover. Instead, curl your toes
into the grass, watch the cloud
ascending from your lips. Walk
through the garden’s dormant splendor.
Say only, thank you.
Thank you.
