We went over to Interstate State Park this morning to hike and make photographs. There were a few fall colors beginning to show up but not many. Though it was a bit cool, it was a

Beautiful September Day.

For some things
there are no wrong seasons.
Which is what I dream for me.
Mary Oliver, A Thousand Mornings: Poems

On the way to the park we saw a couple of interesting stores in Chisago City. I was so intrigued that we stopped so that I could photograph them. I thought the contrast between Smitty’s Bar N Grill and House of Happy was funny.

We brought along a picnic lunch to eat at the park, wandered until we were both tired, and then came home with plenty of time for me to work on the photographs I made today. Today was my definition of a perfect day.

Today

Today I’m flying low and I’m
not saying a word.
I’m letting all the voodoos of ambition sleep.
The world goes on as it must,
the bees in the garden rumbling a little,
the fish leaping, the gnats getting eaten.
And so forth.
But I’m taking the day off.
Quiet as a feather.
I hardly move though really I’m traveling
a terrific distance.
Stillness, One of the doors
into the temple.
— Mary Oliver

As soon as I finish writing this post I plan to sit in my favorite chair with a good book. I’ll put my feet up and enjoy a quiet ending to this perfect September day.

May you walk in beauty.
