The flowers that I planted in front of the house are all blooming like crazy now. Each time I walk by seeing them makes me smile. And my hanging basket of petunias just keeps blooming and blooming despite my occasional neglect.

Simple Things

Simple things can bring great joy. What simple things bring you joy?

“I have learned over a period of time to be almost unconsciously grateful–as a child is–for a sunny day, blue water, flowers in a vase, a tree turning red. I have learned to be glad at dawn and when the sky is dark. Only children and a few spiritually evolved people are born to feel gratitude as naturally as they breathe, without even thinking. Most of us come to it step by painful step, to discover that gratitude is a form of acceptance.”
Faith Baldwin, Many Windows, Seasons of the Heart

On this first day of September I continue to soak in every minute of these late summer days — their beauty, wonderful weather, open windows, green leaves on the trees, a breeze on my skin, flowers in bloom. All of these things are simple pleasures but they bring me profound joy.

“The supreme art is the art of being happy with the simplest things and the greatest artist is the person who performs this art excellently in his everyday life!”
Mehmet Murat ildan

May you (and I) perfect the art of being happy with simple things.

Perhaps today would be a great day to make a list of simple things and simple pleasures that bring you joy.

May you walk in beauty.
