Despite the beauty of this day, for me, it’s

A monochrome day

I feel so saddened by the events in my city this week. It is difficult to find hope in the midst of all the pain that people are experiencing here. Between the devastating health and economic effects of the pandemic and the fires and destruction that are affecting so many good people in our city my mood is somber today.

Don’t run away from grief, o soul,
Look for the remedy inside the pain,
because the rose came from the thorn
and the ruby came from a stone.
~ Rumi

I stayed up late last night watching live news coverage of the fires in Minneapolis. On it I saw state troopers, police, and national guard troops marching en masse towards an area where several fires raged. I saw a reporter choking on tear gas and the confusion and chaos of the night. And I saw a black man in north Minneapolis watch his barber shop go up in flames, the fire department not arriving until after the shop had been engulfed in flames for over 2 hours.

What will it take for all of us to live together in peace? How can I make a difference today that will create harmony and peace? How will our city and our country heal the deep wounds of institutionalized racism?

I have no answers today. So I send out prayers of peace, love and compassion to all who are grieving and suffering.

May you walk in peace today and always.
