These are the only Spring Flowers in my Neighborhood Today. Isn’t this fun?

Last week the grass was greening beautifully, we had our first 70 degree day of the year, and I was happily planning to begin planting lettuce in my container garden.

If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.

Big heavy sigh…but then this happened. (see photo above of our snow-covered lawns in my neighborhood).

My husband would say

The White Mice Have Been Busy

The idea that everything that happens on earth is part of a huge experiment run by white mice comes from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series of books.

Mice are not, as is commonly assumed on Earth, small white squeaking animals who spend a lot of time being experimented on. In fact, they are the protrusions into our dimension of hyper-intelligent pan-dimensional beings. These beings are in fact responsible for the creation of the Earth.

I heard the weather forecast for Easter weekend but kept hoping that it would turn out to be wrong. Then I hoped that it would all melt off the next day. According to Jon, this, and any other anomalies in life, are due to the white mice.

I could tell the white mice a few things right now…

But I won’t, because this is life my friends

We plan, hope, and want our lives to go a certain way. And then life happens. You and I might want things to be different than they are. But clinging to that wanting brings nothing but suffering.

So I get to practice radical acceptance—again. Some days that goes better for me than others.

But watching nature, appreciating the beauty around me, finding ways to laugh at myself, and creating, all help me to come back to choosing joy and choosing gratitude.

The ducks seem to be weathering the snow pretty well (and I’ve also not heard them complaining about the sudden turn in the weather, unlike me).

I never thought I would see ducks tracks in the snow. But this is what they look like.

Two mallard ducks were checking out the yard, perhaps hoping to find some food. I just missed photographing them comically walking through the snow. Their tracks in the snow made me laugh.

I think by the end of the week all the snow will be gone and warmer days will return.

Despite my being ready for spring, the snowfall was beautiful. I hope you are weathering any setbacks or disappointments in your life and are getting the help you need in these challenging times.

May you walk in beauty.
