Yesterday I took advantage of the beautiful sunshiny day and mild weather to make one last trip to a local park before the Friday midnight “Stay-at-home” directive took effect. Baker Park Reserve is an easy 20 minute drive from where we live and usually when I go there are very few people there.

An Afternoon at Baker Park Reserve

That was not the case yesterday. I think a lot of people had the same idea I had of getting out before a long stretch of time at home. Also, it was the nicest day we’ve had so far this spring.

It felt good to be social at a distance, but I swear, there are a lot of people out there who do not know what six feet looks like! I stepped off the path numerous times because people coming towards me were within a foot or two of me. (Just call me paranoid.)

Lots of families out enjoying nature

There were lots of hammocks tied up in the trees, people strolling, dads and daughters biking, and families hiking together. My favorite dad and son were wading (Yes, wading!!!) in the sliver of thawed water at the edge of the mostly ice-covered lake. Brrrr! It was funny to see because their dog (lower left corner of photo) was not going in the water and the mom sat comfortably away from the lake sketching.

I did an online soma yoga class yesterday morning and really enjoyed it. It wasn’t quite the same feeling of deep calm that I usually experience during class at the yoga studio, but it was nice to see everyone from class (on Zoom) and move together mindfully.

As I approach the end of two weeks at home with a couple of outings to parks for walks and walks in the neighborhood, I’m finding it is becoming easier as time goes on. Between creative projects, baking and cooking, cleaning house, walking, exercising, and reading my days seem to fly by. We don’t watch much television but Jon and I pulled out our DVD’s of Agatha Christie mysteries and we’re watching one every other evening or so.

One thing I’ve noticed is that when we go out for our walks we have more conversations with our neighbors (at a distance of course) than ever before. Everyone wants to check on us and make sure we don’t need help with anything and we all seem to just need to connect and acknowledge the strange times we are living in.

Interesting Reads and Listens

Charles Eisenstein, a writer that I respect and enjoy has written a new essay on the times we are living in. It’s a long read and I don’t agree with everything he says, but it gave me a lot of things to think about. You can find it HERE.

And Yo-Yo Ma has been playing, recording, and posting a favorite piece of music every day with the hashtag #SongsOfComfort. You can find one video of him playing HERE

Here’s an interesting interview, Brené Brown with Glennon Doyle, Glennon Doyle and Brené on Untamed.

That’s all for today.

May you walk in beauty.

And finally, from my back yard. A mallard duck in the pond yesterday morning.
