December Reflections 2018

And the prompt for today in December Reflections 2018 is Best Decision of 2018.

My response to the prompt is

Choosing Joy

This is something I do again and again. This fall when I decided to sign up for a community education watercolor painting class I put choosing joy as my primary objective. Even though what I paint almost never turns out as well as I would like it to, the process of painting delights me and fills me with joy. And I keep learning new things.

I made the painting above last night in class when we were working on “fluid painting.”

So long as I keep my focus on the present moment and the process I find joy in it. When I forget and start looking at outcome or comparing myself to others I am reminded immediately that choosing joy is a choice I make over and over and over again.

Joy does not simply happen to us. We have to choose joy and keep choosing it every day.

Choosing joy is a practice of noticing how I feel in the moment, working hard to stay present, letting go of ego crap, and stepping into the unknown.

May you walk in beauty.
