Quote of the day: “Green is the prime color of the world, and that from which its loveliness arises.” — Pedro Calderon de la Barca

A haze of spring green

A haze of spring green in our back yard

The day began overcast and gray. As the morning progressed the skies darkened and rain began to fall. All afternoon, the rain fell, wind chimes sang in the wind, thunder rumbled and lightning flashed.

At times the skies let loose with a deluge of rain.  Other times, the rain was soft and gentle.

It was the kind of day you need electric lights on if you want to read or do any work. I was happy to spend the afternoon sitting in my favorite recliner chair, cuddled up in a blanket, cat purring in my lap, and laptop computer scrunched behind the cat.

As I worked, I listened to the rain and thunder and watched the few flashes of lightning. I knew that there was nowhere I needed to go—I was safe, warm, and dry at home.

After the rain ended, the back yard seemed filled with a vibrating haze of spring green leaves.

Electric Green!

What a beautiful sight!

There is something special about the vivid new electric green of the early spring growth. It doesn’t last long. Soon it will be replaced by the more sedate greens of summer.

Every year I marvel at it. The tree leaves emerge every year, sometimes earlier, sometimes later, but they always appear. And they’re always the vivid bright green that sings of new life and the joyous awakening of plants and trees.

Every year it fills me with wonder.

The grass greens, trees leaf out, flowers bloom, and summer returns.

It is an ORDINARY MIRACLE in my back yard and yours.

Stop, and notice the new life emerging. Give thanks for the beauty of life. Notice electric spring greens on your street.

May you walk in beauty.
