Texture Play – Looking Up

Today’s theme for Kim Klassen’s Texture Tuesday is “Looking Up.” I chose two photos from my walk in the woods today to play with. The first was a plain view of maple leaves and blue sky. I was not happy with the photo and did not plan to use it. But it fit the theme of “looking up” so I decided to play around with adding a texture or two to see what I might do with it.

I chose Kim Klassen’s texture “kk_Edward” and added two layers of it in “lighten” blend mode. The way the texture modified the colors and texture of my photo surprised and delighted me. It looks like an abstract painting and I love the colors, though I never would have imagined pairing such colors if I were making a painting.

Playing around, experimenting, wondering—all are ways that new things are discovered and created.

Here is one more photo that I played with. I was not nearly as surprised or delighted with it, but I like the effect.

Tall Maple Tree With Added Texture

In this photo I added a layer of kk_elevate in overlay blend mode at 10%, and two layers of Kim Klassen nutmeg in soft light blend mode, one layer at 86% opacity and one layer at 63% opacity. I also added a warming filter layer.

Kudos to you for being willing to play and experiment. We never know what might result…It keeps our art fresh and alive.
