Quote of the day: “Everything that slows us down and forces patience, everything that sets us back into the slow circles of nature, is a help. Gardening is an instrument of grace.” — May Sarton

Clematis Flowers in my garden

Every Friday I create a list of things I am grateful for. This week I’m late creating my list because I was out in nature all day Friday! It’s been a week of woods and gardening for me. What a blessing!

Besides loving the time that I spend in my own garden, I’ve decided that gardening is a great metaphor for business and life for me. You plant the seeds and tend the garden but then you let go and let nature (God) take over. You cannot control the weather and a myriad of other variables. There are things you can do to help the garden by making sure the plants get enough nutrients and water and light, but you cannot MAKE anything happen. The spark of life is a mystery contained in each seed. With my photography, I show up and make photographs of what speaks to me. I keep learning, growing, creating and trusting the mystery.

Linking with gratitude to Liv Lane’s Little Bliss List this week.

Here are just a few of the things I’m grateful for this week:

Helping my Habitat for Humanity partner family plant their first garden at their new home!

Ordinary miracles in my yard

Ducks in the pond behind our house

Common Whitetail Skimmer Dragonfly at Hyland Park Reserve

Hooded Merganser Duck family at Hyland Park Reserve where my husband and I celebrated our 34th Wedding Anniversary

Crosby Lake at Carver Park Reserve

Plant in rock crevice showing me how to grow where you are planted!

Extraordinary beauty in the cycles of life

Peonies from my garden - mmmm....
