Wild Violets and White Lilacs

Wild Violets and White Lilacs

Oh, how beautiful it is in Minneapolis this week! My favorite flowers are all bursting into bloom and life is good! Yesterday afternoon I walked out the door and made photos of apple blossoms, picked violets and lilacs to make still life photographs, and breathed in the wonderful scent of flowers. Mmmmm….

Special thanks to Kim Klassen for her lovely texture “HappyHeart.” I used the texture in the Wild Violets photo above.

It’s been an interesting week so far. I’ve been getting clearer and clearer about how I want to do my photography and my life and my business. Instead of striving to make something happen, I’ve been relaxing into doing what I love and trusting that the way will become clear.

Two weeks ago, I decided that I wasn’t going to play the Etsy renewal game that many sellers have told me I need to play to get traffic seeing my Etsy shop. [If you’re not familiar with Etsy, sellers often renew items in their shop many times a day at 20 cents a pop to get their stuff showing up earlier in searches.]

I decided to focus on creating new prints (which I LOVE to do) and making them available in my Etsy shop, and to do minimal renewals. After a couple of weeks of doing very few renewals, but steadily adding new items to the shop, Sunday, I had an order for 5 photos from my Etsy site, 4 of them very large prints. Woo-hoo! When I got done printing the photos yesterday and looked at them all arrayed on the table, I was so proud of my work. They were beautiful!

Today I booked a gig for doing family portraits for someone I know. Out of the blue! Without advertising! I know these events seem pretty small and insignificant, but for me, they are a signpost to keep me following the path I’ve chosen and to trust that the bridge will appear as I walk on it.

What signposts are showing up in your life this week? Are they encouraging you to keep going in the same direction, or to change something in your life?

Thanks Cherie. I have a special love for violets! When I was a kid I would go out a pick a big bunch for my Mom so violets remind me of her.
