Tripping Over Grace

Quote of the day: “ Now is the time to know that all that you do is sacred… Now is the time for you to deeply compute the impossibility that there is anything but grace.” – Hafiz Everything is grace. Doesn’t matter what it is, it’s all grace.  That’s how I figure it anyway.  I’ve spent the past two days getting incredible joy out of photographing flowers from a $3.99 bouquet of flowers from Trader Joe’s.  It’s not what I planned to do this week.  But it was perfect. I am totally intrigued by the use of textures in photos Read more…

Be Compassionate with Yourself

Quote of the day: “When you are compassionate with yourself, you trust in your soul, which you let guide your life. Your soul knows the geography of your destiny better than you do.” – John O’Donohue   I’ve been having a slow week. Escalating pain issues have caused me to slow down and listen to my body rather than trying to push through the pain in an effort to get things done.  It seems I need to learn this lesson again and again in my life.  There is so much I want to do.  But I am getting better at Read more…

Come Alive!

Quote of the day: “Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” – Howard Thurman Yesterday I got an email from one of my Etsy customers, saying that my photo “Lovingkindness barn” on my Etsy website (http://www.etsy.com/listing/81987393/on-sale-fine-art-photograph-loving ) was her uncle’s barn.  What a small world it is!  I loved that barn the first time I saw it and thought that whoever lived there surely was doing what he or she loved.  Turns out he’s an artist and sells paintings Read more…

Sometimes flow eludes me

Quote of the day:  “Action and reaction, ebb and flow, trial and error, change – this is the rhythm of living. Out of our over-confidence, fear; out of our fear, clearer vision, fresh hope. And out of hope, progress.” — Bruce Barton Last night I took some family portraits for some friends to use on their Christmas card.  The light wasn’t good.  The background was limited.  And I am still uncomfortable using a flash for portraits.  I had asked my friends to come over in daylight hours, preferably for an outdoor shoot several weeks ago, but it didn’t happen.  Now Read more…

Going with the Flow

Quote of the day: Don’t push the river—it flows by itself. — (Fritz Perls, Gestalt Therapy Verbatim) Go with the flow.  It’s easy to say, but much more difficult to practice.  For most of my life I’ve done anything BUT go with the flow.  I’ve worked hard, driven myself to “succeed” and ignored the still, small voice coming from my heart. After I left the corporate world, it took me six months to realize that I was using the same driving style in my new life as I worked at creating my own photography business.  It wasn’t working.  I wasn’t happy as I Read more…
