Our lives are continuously shaped by circles of beginnings, endings and then new beginnings. It may feel to many today that we are at a sad ending and to others that we are at a bright new beginning. I would suggest that neither is true…
We Cannot See Clearly Now
what may be, what will happen. Change may be the only constant we know. The human race has far to go before we become wise and kind beings. There is a saying, “The search for intelligent life goes on because we sure haven’t found it here.” Right now that saying feels quite true to me.
Much may be lost and change in the coming years. The one truth I am sure of is that we are living in challenging times.
I searched my blog archives and found a post from 4 years ago when we faced a different kind of turmoil. In it wise woman Clarissa Pinkola Estes reminds us that, “We were made for these times…”
My world seems darker today after hearing of the results of the elections yesterday. And I am still grieving for what was lost. It seems to me that right now we need to take care of ourselves and one another like never before.
I listened to a podcast by Martha Beck yesterday. She too is grieving the election results. But she reminded all of us of three steps forward…
- Kindness — be kind to yourself and to others, even those with whom you don’t agree.
- Art — once you are able to, create. Create! Create! Create! Create new ideas. Create beauty. Create a new way of seeing.
- Transcendence — take your anger and sorrow and turn them into the determination to create positive change.
It is not given to us to know which acts or by whom, will cause the critical mass to tip toward an enduring good. What is needed for dramatic change is an accumulation of acts – adding, adding to, adding more, continuing. We know that it does not take “everyone on Earth” to bring justice and peace, but only a small, determined group who will not give up during the first, second, or hundredth gale.
— Clarissa Pinkola Estes
Please be kind to yourself and others today and always. Create something beautiful today.
May you walk in beauty.
Note: More photos from my walk at French Regional Park yesterday.
