Yesterday evening I decided to take a walk down the street to photograph some of the flowers in our neighborhood. I drive by them almost every day, admiring their beauty and most of the time when I think of photographing them the light isn’t right.

At a little after 7 pm yesterday, the sky was overcast and the light was beautiful for making photos. Here are some of my

Impressions of Beauty

from my short walk, along with two poems by Wendell Barry that I happened upon today.

At night make me one with the darkness

In the morning make me one with the light

When I rise up, let me rise joyful like a bird.

When I fall, let me fall without regret, like a leaf.

Let me wake in the night and hear it raining and go back to sleep.

It may be that when we no longer know what to do

we have come to our real work,

and that when we no longer know which way to go

we have come to our real journey.

The mind that is not baffled is not employed.

The impeded stream is the one that sings.

   — Wendell Barry

May you walk in beauty.
