At the end of each year I go through the photographs that I made during the year and pick my favorite 12 images.
Another Year Ends
On this last day of 2021 I finalized my favorite 2021 photo picks.
The wonderful thing about devoting myself to my passion for photography is that I keep growing and changing every year. My skills change and also my desires of what I want to express change. Over time I have become less interested in simple “pretty pictures” and more interested in creating images with meaning, depth, and feeling.
Creating that kind of work is a lot harder than making pretty pictures. But I think it’s worth the effort because in struggling to express more I learn more about myself and what matters most to me..
Here all of my 2021 favorites. I thought that I might want to talk a little bit about 2021 in this blog post but I find that I want to simply let this year end with no commentary, like sand flowing slowly through an hour glass. It’s been a brutiful (brutal and beautiful) year, my friends and I hope that we create more beauty and less brutality in the new year.
I encourage you to read or listen to Amanda Gorman’s new poem, New Day’s Lyric. You can find a video of her reading the poem on Instagram.
Happy New Year!
May you walk in beauty.
