As the leaves continue to fall, sometimes they land on our concrete driveway on a rainy day and leave an imprint of their beauty.

I have been fascinated watching nature’s

Driveway Art and Other Found Beauty

appear and disappear this fall. Though the falling of the leaves is a portent of winter, there is beauty in these moments if I slow down and pay attention enough to notice it.

Still, there is something about this time of year that feels quite melancholy to me. As I watch the trees prepare to go dormant for the winter, a part of me wants to go dormant too. My heart longs for endless summer, though my head tells me that this place would not be so beautiful to me if it never changed. The turning of the seasons is a necessary part of the whole.

So I turn my heart towards being fully where I am in this moment, a bit melancholy and a bit joyful. My heart is large enough to contain both sentiments at the same time.

“The further I wake into this life, the more I realize that God is everywhere and the extraordinary is waiting quietly beneath the skin of all that is ordinary. Light is in both the broken bottle and the diamond, and music is in both the flowing violin and the water dripping from the drainage pipe. Yes, God is under the porch as well as on top of the mountain, and joy is in both the front row and the bleachers, if we are willing to be where we are.”
Mark Nepo, The Book of Awakening: Having the Life You Want by Being Present to the Life You Have

How is your heart this beautiful first Wednesday in November my friends?

May you walk in beauty.
