Last week I told you about a new project I’ve joined called 52Frames. This week I really noticed the creative benefit of making a commitment and sticking with it, despite setbacks or challenges along the way.

Showing Up

The topic for this week’s photo challenge on 52Frames is “Line from a Song.” Photographers can create any image they like that represents a line from a song. And photographers can choose an extra credit option of using a random song lyric generator provided on the 51Frames website. I chose to use the random song lyric generator this week. The song line that I received from the generator was this…

Seagull you fly across the horizon into the misty morning sun. Nobody asked you where you are going. Nobody knows where you’re from.

   — Joe Bonamassa

So I’ve been searching for seagulls in early mornings all week in places where I often see them. And of course, I’ve found no seagulls at all, only ducks, purple martins, and a great blue heron. I’ve also found peace, joy, and beauty on my solitary early morning walks.

I have one more idea I hope to try before the Sunday deadline for submitting images.

But even if I don’t find any seagulls, I am contented because I’ve been showing up with my camera in the early mornings. And I’ve taken several lovely walks by local lakes. My whole purpose for joining the 52Frames challenge was to challenge me to keep showing up, learning and growing.

“Life is about showing up, so is writing. That’s why I sit at my desk every day and dance my fingers across the keyboard”
Laurie Buchanan, PhD

Right now the challenge is still feeling very new and I am feeling highly motivated to show up each week. I wonder how I’ll feel about it after several months. It will be interesting to see how I feel about it in a year. Will I actually create and submit a new image to 52Frames for an entire year? Time will tell.

How are you showing up in your creative life my friends? What new challenges or ideas are exciting you?

May you walk in beauty.
