I don’t have a lot of new photographs this week because I’ve been working on home improvement projects the past week and not doing a lot of photography. So I thought I would wish you

Happy Easter

with a couple of my favorite hummingbird photos from several years ago.

I’ve been following the hummingbird migration reporting site (yes there is a hummingbird migration website) to check for when I need to put out my hummingbird feeder again. Last I looked, reports of sitings were no further north than Missouri. With the warmer weather things may change rapidly though.

I’m also thinking about setting up a bird feeder on a pole outside my office window later this spring. We used to feed birds from feeders on our deck but kept having problems with raccoons knocking down the feeder if we left it out. And when we didn’t leave out the feeder the raccoons let us know of their displeasure by pooping on our deck.

We also had a lot of thistles begin to grow in our yard when I began feeding thistle seed. And I don’t like the mess that feeding plain sunflower seeds leaves on the ground around the feeder. I know, I’m picky but these things matter when you’re trying to make maintaining the yard easy as you age.

Nevertheless I think I’ve found a solution that might work.

Recently my daughter introduced me to a bird food blend called “No Mess Blend” that has only shelled seeds and nuts in it. I’m thinking that if I put up a pole with a squirrel and raccoon baffle on it and use the No Mess bird food it might work without a lot of mess or bother. So I’m dreaming again of feeding the birds and getting to see them up close. Stay tuned because if I put up the feeder I may be able to make photos of the birds through my office window.

“Easter is…
Joining in a birdsong,
Eying an early sunrise,
Smelling yellow daffodils,
Unbolting windows and doors,
Skipping through meadows,
Cuddling newborns,
Hoping, believing,
Reviving spent life,
Inhaling fresh air,
Sprinkling seeds along furrows,
Tracking in the mud.
Easter is the soul’s first taste of spring.”

Resurrection Day

Today I’m feeling resurrected myself. Friday morning I got my second COVID shot.  And Friday night and yesterday I was down for the count with headache, chills, gut pain, and body aches. I kept telling myself, that this was good because it meant that the vaccine was working and my immune system was doing what it needed to do. But, wow, I was really knocked flat by it. The good news is that I’m feeling almost fully recovered today! Yay!

And I feel so blessed that I have gotten the vaccine and will be more protected from the COVID virus. Though we are not yet getting together with family because I need to wait two weeks after receiving the shot, I am excited about the possibility of family gatherings soon.

Wishing you a lovely day today and always.

May you walk in beauty.

And here’s a photo of the early spring flowers in our backyard this morning…
