This morning as I finished my short meditation in the chair by the corner window of the bedroom, I was struck by the textures, lines, and light that drew me eyes. So I used my phone to make images of the textures, lines, and light that I saw from my corner chair in the bedroom.

It was a kind of freezing of my

Present Moment

awareness of beauty.

So often we miss the mundane beauty that surrounds us in our daily lives. We become immured in our old perceptions and miss the freshness of each passing moment. As a photographer I think that I notice beauty in ways I never did before I began looking through the viewfinder of my camera on a regular basis. Noticing beauty is a practice that I find enriches my life immensely.

Try simply sitting still in a room that you spend a lot of time in. Allow your gaze to soften and slowly look around. Notice the light and shadows, shapes and textures, and the feelings that you experience as you slowly move your gaze around the space.

“The present moment is filled with joy and happiness. If you are attentive, you will see it.”
Thich Nhat Hanh, Peace Is Every Step: The Path of Mindfulness in Everyday Life

Choosing to see beauty is a practice just like meditation is a practice, choosing joy is a practice, and choosing gratitude is a practice. I find all of them work synergistically  in my life.

Perhaps finding time for present moment awareness of beauty would brighten your life today.

May you walk in beauty.
