These flowers! They fill me with so much joy and make me want to get up and dance. I’ve been seeing bouquets of them at the food coop for a few weeks and finally this week I bought a bunch of them to bring home.
Ranunculus Ranunculus
They are ridiculously beautiful with their layers of thin crepe paper like petals and their graceful stem curves and slightly different shades of pink. When in full bloom they look similar to a rose with their layers of petals. Finally, they come in a rainbow of colors. A few years ago I had a plant with bright coral blossoms. I’ve also seen bright yellow, red, white, violet, and orange.
“A flower blossoms for its own joy.”

And their name! Just try to say “Ranunculus” three times in a row! It’s like a single word tongue twister. So much fun just saying a simple flower name!
Here’s a link to a blog post from the Transactions with Beauty blog that I enjoyed this week, about learning to photograph flowers. It’s called Afraid of the Police. As Shawna Lemay (auther and blogger) talks about learning to photograph flowers I think about the hours and hours I’ve spent photographing flowers. It’s not as easy as one might think. I’m always thinking about ways to see them differently and to photograph them.
A bouquet of flowers is such a simple thing to bring joy and beauty into one’s life. So when was the last time you brought a bunch home? When was the last time you let yourself be filled with wonder and amazement at a single flower? Bring home some flowers this week—just because…
May you walk in beauty.

Beautiful! It would be mind blowing to have a bouquet of every color of them. In a peculiar way, they remind me of a peony at certain stages of their blooming! 👏

It would be fun to have a bouquet with all the colors. And yes, they remind me of peonies too at a certain stage, but the petals are much thinner and textured like crepe paper.
