One of the practices I have committed to as a photographer is to seek out places where I can submit my work for publication. Last year I submitted my first photos to Shots Magazine which publishes 4 issues of black and white art photos per year. Each issue has a theme or topic. When I feel that I have photos that match the theme I submit them. I have had two different photos accepted into past Shots Magazine issues (Winter 2018 and Winter 2019). It’s very exciting to have photos make it into the magazine.
Ordinary Magic
The theme for the 2019 spring issue of Shots Magazine is Ordinary Magic, a topic that lights up my heart. I believe that we are surrounded by ordinary magic all the time. This week I reviewed my recent photos to find which ones I thought represented Ordinary Magic and came up with these six images.
What a lovely journey I had going through my images looking for Ordinary Magic. In my eyes almost everything is ordinary magic if you look at it correctly (starting with gratitude and ending with joy). I began by making a collection of over 30 images that felt like they represented Ordinary Magic. Then I slowly whittled away images that did not feel strong enough or clear enough in their intention. Finally yesterday I ended with the six images in this post.
“I realized it for the first time in my life: there is nothing but mystery in the world, how it hides behind the fabric of our poor, browbeat days, shining brightly, and we don’t even know it.”
― The Secret Life of Bees
Thinking about Ordinary Magic reminds me of Ordinary Miracles which I believe are related to Ordinary Magic. I found this lovely song video by Sarah Maclachlan that brightened my day.

What ordinary magic or ordinary miracles have you been finding in your life recently?
May you walk in beauty.
