Happiness is…

A Walk in the Woods

I went for a walk at Big Willow park today. The trails were sloppy and muddy. The sky above was a uniform gray. And snow still clung to parts of the trails and along the sides of the trails.

But it didn’t matter to me. I was walking in the woods. Birds sang high in the trees above. Two geese stood on one leg in the marsh beside the trail. Minnehaha Creek was open and flowing and the stream made a merry sound as it meandered over the rocks near the railroad tracks.

A pair of mallard ducks were startled by my passing and took to the air.

Tomorrow may bring another snowstorm but today I communed with the trees, listened to the birds, smelled spring in the air, and felt the joy of my body moving outside with the breeze on my face.

When was the last time you walked in the woods?

May you walk in beauty.
