Quote of the day: “This is the real secret of life — to be completely engaged with what you are doing in the here and now. And instead of calling it work, realize it is play.” ― Alan Wilson Watts
Can you tell which of these photos was made with my iPhone and which with my Canon DSLR?
My purchase of my first iPhone last week has had me playing around making photos everywhere I go. I’m having such fun discovering and learning new applications and being free to snap photos without taking myself too seriously.
Play has a wonderful way of changing how we think and promoting creativity, flexibility, and learning. It also works as an antidote to stress and makes us happier. In workplaces, play has been shown to be related to increased innovation.
I like to call my portrait sessions, “Photo Play,” because that’s how I see them. I want the people I photograph to be themselves, to let go and play with me, instead of feeling the need to look or behave in a certain way. I’ve found so many people get stressed out about having their photo taken. Introducing play makes sessions more fun and brings out the best in everyone.
I work best these days when I am at play. Wouldn’t it be an amazing world if everyone had the opportunity to go to Play every day instead of going to Work?
P.S. The first two photos in this post were made with my DSLR. All the rest were made with my iPhone.
