Fall Weekend

Redwood River

Last weekend we traveled to Iowa to see a dear cousin, my aunt, other cousins, and two of my brothers. On the way we took the back roads and stopped along the way wherever we wanted, to explore, walk, and make photos. With the dry summer the countryside is looking very golden and brown. Farmers are working hard harvesting corn and soybeans.

I grew up on a farm. This trip I spent much of my time marveling at how farming has changed as I watched huge combines and semis loading up with corn, out in fields.

We stopped at a park in Redwood Falls, MN and saw how low the river was. The falls in the Redwood River were still flowing, but I imagine much less than in usual years. The river was strewn with rocks that were completely uncovered.

We also stopped at Pipestone National Monument and walked the quarry path there. The pipestone and quartzite are such beautiful stones. The town of Pipestone is also worth a drive-through as so many of the downtown buildings were built with the beautiful quartzite stone.

It was good visiting family and catching up on everyone’s lives and work. I meant to take some photos of family, but got so caught up in our conversations, I forgot about making portraits. Maybe next time.
