About Joy

Today feels like a good day to talk About Joy. Every once in a while I read something that takes my breath away. Yesterday I read a beautiful poem called Joy is the Justice We Give Ourselves. I encourage you to read it too. It is both beautiful and haunting, about being black in America. It’s a long poem, beautifully written that speaks to the full experience of life. Here is just a small excerpt from the poem… … Joy is the flashing blue light passing by, not meant for me.   Joy is the good news, without new Read more…

Hanging Out in the Woods

Yesterday I spent a lot of time Hanging Out in the Woods. While much of the landscape is taking on the monochrome look of late fall, I found some patches of bright color left in Wolsfeld Woods SNA. I spent much of my time craning my eyes upward towards the sky admiring the tall trees. But I also kept an eye on the trail beneath my feet. But I am discovering Read more…

In This Moment

This is what the pond looks like this morning, In this Moment. The colors are a little more subdued than they were just a few days ago. But there is no ice on the pond this morning, the grass is still green, and there are still leaves on many of the trees around the pond. The sun is shining in a cloudless sky and we’re expecting a nice weather warmup this weekend. Everything changes — every moment, every day. And sometimes things fall apart just a little bit or they fall apart spectacularly. Some days are like raking leaves in Read more…
