Life As We Know It

It struck me today that we humans are often full of hubris about our place in the world. Life as We Know It is much more complex than we imagine. Our culture likes to play up the idea of  Darwin’s idea of “survival of the fittest,” when in reality this simply is not true. Cooperation is life’s superpower, not struggle. We people are just like our planet-mates. We cannot put an end to nature; we can only pose a threat to ourselves. The notion that we can destroy all life, including bacteria thriving in the water tanks of nuclear power Read more…

Take Flight

This morning I went down to Medicine Lake to see how many migrating birds were on the lake. As I was approaching the lake a huge flock of geese flew over my head, honking loudly as they flew. Fall Migration Yesterday late afternoon I took my Canon camera, 100-400 mm lens, and 1.4 extender over to French Regional Park to see if I could see any trumpeter swans nearby. There were none near the park but as I gazed towards the eastern shore of Medicine Lake I Read more…

Do The Work

This morning I reviewed my book project images that I’ve been working on for several months. And when I finished reviewing all sixty of them I felt so happy. For the first time every single image felt like it belonged in this collection. The flow of the images from one to the other felt exactly right. I think I’m done adding and deleting, ordering and reordering them. Now I need to begin the hard work of actually creating the book. It is so easy to procrastinate by fussing about which paper I should use or to arrange and rearrange the Read more…
