Simply Being Here

What is it that matters most in life? Is it what you do, who you are, how you are, what you create, what you know, how much stuff you have? The older I get the more I believe that what matters most is Simply Being Here, being present, open, and aware. When I began choosing to see beauty through the lens of my camera, I began to regularly experience wonder, awe, and joy. The more I looked the more beauty I saw and the more wonder, awe, and joy I experienced. Living life as an artist is a practice. You Read more…

A Learning/Playing Day

It was cold outside yesterday (and again today)! So I decided to have A Learning/Playing Day in my home studio yesterday and today. Yesterday morning I made and edited photos of the flowers and cherry blossom twigs that I bought the day before at the greenhouse. As is often the case, on my second day of working with these flowers I felt like I created images that I liked much better than those I created the first day I worked with them. I love these flowers’ layered, papery, textured petals. Read more…

The Creative Muse

I haven’t worked on my photo book project for six weeks. And I was beginning to wonder when I would feel the urge to come back to work on it. I’ve been feeling a bit discouraged and lost and not sure what my next steps would be. Yesterday I talked a bit about how I lost my enthusiasm for the project with my Artist Way group. A Bit of Green

It’s a white world outside my windows. I’ve noticed the squirrels running across open areas in our backyard as fast as they can—the raptors and other predators are probably hungry and wouldn’t mind a squirrel dinner. With the white snow background any moving creature shows up very well to the predators. As an antidote to all the snow that I see outside today I’m sharing A Bit of Green from my garden seedlings. This morning I moved some of the seedlings from their tiny starter peat containers into larger peat pots. It was a welcome dose of green therapy for Read more…
