From Joy to Joy to Joy

Quote of the day:   “Every life is braided with luminous moments.” –  John O-Donohue I spent the morning photographing at the Como Park Conservatory and Japanese Garden – “…from joy to joy to joy!”  One of my favorite places to go! This poem by Li-Young Lee from “Blossoms” expresses how it felt to be there today: O, to take what we love inside, to carry within us an orchard, to eat not only the skin, but the shade, not only the sugar, but the days, to hold the fruit in our hands, adore it…   There are days we live… Read more…

Who are you – really?

Quote of the day: “If you’re able to be yourself, then you have no competition. All you have to do is get closer and closer to that essence. – Barbara Cook I’ve been reading Do More Great Work by Michael Bungay Stanier.  In one of the essays in the book, Penelope Trunk says this about Great Work: “So really, doing Great Work is about knowing who you are and what you want. Quote of the day: “Our task is to say a holy yes to the real things of our life.” – Natalie Goldberg Ok, I can hear you already, “What does a traveling garden gnome have to do with ‘Settling into being’ or with the real things in life?”  I don’t know for sure.  All I know is that I’ve been enjoying playing with my garden gnome statues in the garden and out on photography shoots.  And my friends are responding by wanting to buy photo cards of my cute little guys.  They are just so silly and cute.  What’s not Read more…

As Vast As The Sky

Quote of the day: “Always keep your mind as bright and clear as the vast sky, the great ocean, and the highest peak, empty of all thoughts. Always keep your body filled with light and heat. Fill yourself with the power of wisdom and enlightenment.” – Morihei Ueshiba Today, I made photos at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.  The prairie spoke to me today, with vast blue sky above, golden flowers reaching for the sky and tall grasses swaying in the breeze.  I’ve been so drawn to bright yellow flowers against bright blue sky lately.  So cheerful.  So simple.  So me Read more…

Ordinary Miracles

Quote of the day: “People usually consider walking on water or in thin air as a miracle. But I think the real miracle is to walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don’t even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child – our own two eyes. All is a miracle.” – Thich Nhat Hanh I took a walk in the neighborhood with my camera today and took photos of some of the ordinary miracles I see every day.  If you look, you can find beauty anywhere Read more…
