The Art of Seeing – Week 10

Quote of the week: “A photographer who wants to see, a photographer who wants to make fine images, must recognize the value of the familiar.” — Freeman Patterson I’m still working with Doug Beasley‘s wonderful Vision Quest Cards: Photo Assignments For Personal & Spiritual Growth in my photography self-study assignments. This week I drew the card that says, “Photograph an object that is very important to you as if it were  a sacred relic. Pay attention to lighting. Hmmm… my first problem with this assignment was choosing an object that is very important to me. I’m not very attached to things so finding some Read more…

Stark Beauty

Quote of the day: “Our task must be to free ourselves by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty.” — Albert Einstein While driving down to Kansas City this week the sky was overcast and threatening.  We took a detour off the interstate to follow a country highway in Missouri for a while so that I could say, “Stop here! I want to make a photo of this,” to my ever-patient husband Jon. Jon would stop the car, I would jump out of the car with my camera and make many Read more…

Photo-Heart Connection – Keep It Simple – Create for the Joy of Creating!

Quote of the day:  “Remember to delight yourself first, then others can be truly delighted.” This was my mantra when I published my first book in 1990, and still holds true. It’s none of your business. It’s your business to stay present and focused for the work of your deepest dreams. It might look crooked or strange, or be very odd-but if it delights you, then it is Read more…

Tuesday Texture Time

It’s Tuesday so that means Texture Tuesday at Kim Klassen Café. I hadn’t planned to link up today but then I had some time to play with photos I made last night in downtown Minneapolis. I thought it would be fun to mix up my texture play with something other than my usual flower or nature shots. In the first photo I made a copy of the background layer using soft light blend mode at 100% opacity. Then I added the text using the font “My Underwood” from dafont.com at 93% opacity. I added two layers of Kim Klassen’s texture Read more…

An Evening Photo Walk Downtown

Quote of the day: “What day is it?” asked Pooh. “It’s today,” squeaked Piglet. “My favorite day,” said Pooh.” ― A.A. Milne After supper last night I decided to head downtown with my camera to make photos. There was a Twins game so lots of traffic and people heading to the game. We stopped first to the Minneapolis Grain Exchange Building. Jon had been downtown a couple of weeks ago and had occasion to visit the building and told me later how beautiful it was. He was right. It is a beautiful building. While I didn’t get to see the exchange Read more…
