Last week I visited one of my favorite places. The colors were popping, the weather was fine, and walking under the tall trees that grow there filled me with
Big Woods Wonder.
I’ve shared photos of these woods often, usually from springtime when the canopy is just beginning to fill in or from autumn when the leaves are turning shades of red, orange, and gold. These woods are one of my favorite places to spend time in the spring and fall. (Summer brings too many mosquitoes to spend much time there.)
Today I am simply sharing some of my favorite images from my walk there last week. I plan to return again tomorrow or the next day for another hike. And because of how quickly things change this time of year I expect many more leaves on the ground.
I don’t have a lot of thoughts about the season to write about or deep thoughts to share. Though I am glad that I voted early I worry more than I would like about the upcoming election. I am working on saying “Yes” to everything, including whatever happens in the next month while I continue to focus on being a person of love and good will. I will endeavor to walk through this world one step at a time doing the next right thing whatever that is.
Yes To the Season
The wide world awaits today,
with changing leaves and a
sky so pure and blue I could
lose myself in an instant of
true seeing. Dew sparkles
in the grass, and the iridescent
back of the one remaining
hummingbird flashes in the sun.
It’s as if the day itself issues
an invitation to be present
and awake. My RSVP is
immediate and certain.
Yes to the season and its
underlying energy. Yes to
the moment and the secrets
it may hold. Yes to cold,
star-strewn nights and the
knowing that the love field
is just beyond my physical
sight, a gift from the Infinite
that never grows old.

May you walk in beauty.
