Some days the lushness of this world amazes me. Today was one of those days. I headed over to French Regional Park for a morning walk before the heat got to be too much. And even though it was early in the day, it was still a steamy walk! The rain from yesterday left a sheen of wetness on the walking paths. And the landscape all around me was filled with countless
Shades of Green
from pale green to the deepest darkest green, from yellow-green to bluish green and everything in between.
She turned back to inspect a bank of greens: olive, jade, leaf, kiwi, lime, a silver-green like the back of birch leaves, a bright pistachio.

I saw many birds on the ground collecting insects — red winged blackbirds, swallows, sparrows, goldfinches and more.
And there were lots of people out and about enjoying this day without rain before more rain arrives tonight.
The humidity made it feel like I was hiking in a rain forest. And the sky was filled with puffy clouds that may be the portent of the several days of rain forecast for this week.
Green was the silence, wet was the light, the month of June trembled like a butterfly.

When I think back to what the world around me looked like just a few short weeks ago I cannot help being astonished at how the parks and yards are now teeming with green leaves, green grass, and wild green plants. What seems at first excruciatingly slow growth in early spring suddenly speeds up in early June. And then before you know it the world is full of shades of green everywhere you look — fecund, flourishing, fertile, fruitful, lush green.
This year’s early bloomers have already formed tiny green berries. And before you know it the leaves and plants will begin looking a bit worn and tattered. This time of year I can’t help falling in love with this miraculous world we live in.
We all know how loving ends. But I want to fall in love with the world anyway, to let it crack me open. I want to feel what there is to feel while I am here.
— John Green, The Anthropocene Reviewed
Have a beautiful green-filled week my friends.
May you walk in beauty.
