This morning on my walk in the neighborhood I could clearly see a half moon hanging in the sky above my head. So I called this morning my
Half Moon Morning.
The sky was a mix of perfect blue and collections of interesting clouds.
And the air was warm, a bit humid, and a little hazy. I had my new camera hanging from a strap around my neck and all was well with my world. While I knew I had several appointments filling my day, this early morning time was all mine to soak in and enjoy.
SELF-PORTRAIT
I wish I was twenty and in love with life
and still full of beans.Onward, old legs!
There are the long, pale dunes; on the other side
the roses are blooming and finding their labor
no adversity to the spirit.Upward, old legs! There are the roses, and there is the sea
shining like a song, like a body
I want to touchthough I’m not twenty
and won’t be again but ah! seventy. And still
in love with life. And still
full of beans.— Mary Oliver
And enjoy it, I did! I relished the feeling of walking, arms swinging freely, seeing the neighbor’s dog barking and running up and down beside the fence of it’s yard, basking in early morning light, blue sky and white clouds, soft breeze, and humid warmth, greens all around, and the promise of a new day.
Outside the leaves on the trees constricted slightly; they were the deep done green of the beginning of autumn. It was a Sunday in September. There would only be four. The clouds were high and the swallows would be here for another month or so before they left for the south before they returned again next summer.
― The Whole Story and Other Stories
Now that we’ve turned the corner into September I am seeing more and more leaves beginning to turn. And the greens of the trees and leaves are looking a little faded and worn as well as tattered and torn. Is it just my imagination of does time seem to speed up this time of year? I’d like to hold onto summer a little longer each year but the coming of September signals that summer is quickly closing. I savor each moment of sunshine and warmth hoping to store up memories for cold winter days.
May you walk in beauty.
