Ducklings!

Two days ago I saw my first

Ducklings

of the year on the pond! Seven little mallard ducklings swimming along with their Mama. Such a simple joy!

Mr. and Mrs. Mallard were bursting with pride. It was a great responsibility taking care of so many ducklings, and it kept them very busy. She taught them how to swim and dive.

The next day I saw them again. All seven ducklings were still following Mama Duck, although sometimes they strayed and then they swam like crazy to catch up with her again.

I haven’t yet seen them this morning so I’m wondering if she took them for a walk up from the pond, across the street and down the hill to the larger pond there. In past years I’ve often seen families of ducks making their way from one pond to the other one.
