The skies have been gray all day. And rain has been falling steadily since late morning. It is now late afternoon and still the rain falls. It’s an unusual

Rainy Day in February

a month not known for rain in Minnesota. But this entire winter has been unusual, with rain/sleet/snow that froze to create winter wonderlands of the trees again and again. Record snowfall early in the season surprised many of us. And now this.

The past few sunny mild days have brought a feeling of elation to my heart. I can feel hope bubble up that this strange winter just might ease into an early spring. Do you feel it too, when the sun is shining and the temperatures are mild, this sense of hope, joy, and dread all mixed up together? Who knows what March will have in store for us. It can be kindest or the cruelest month.

There is always in February some one day, at least, when one smells the yet distant, but surely coming summer.

― Gertrude Jekyll

Today was a good day to curl up in a chair with a good book, which I did for much of the afternoon. But then I decided to play around with making photos of nature items I picked up on my walks this week. How have you spent this rainy February day?

Some Fill With Each Good Rain

There are different wells within your heart.
Some fill with each good rain,
Others are far too deep for that.

In one well
You have just a few precious cups of water,
That “love” is literally something of yourself,
It can grow as slow as a diamond
If it is lost.

Your love
Should never be offered to the mouth of a
Stranger,
Only to someone
Who has the valor and daring
To cut pieces of their soul off with a knife
Then weave them into a blanket
To protect you.

There are different wells within us.
Some fill with each good rain,
Others are far, far too deep
For that.
