This morning I breathed a big sigh of relief when I saw the midterm election results. I’ve never prayed about an election before this one. But I prayed a lot during the past days. I didn’t ask for a specific outcome but rather I simply asked that the results be for the highest good for the world. And along with a breathing a big sigh of relief this morning as I read the early election results I felt that perhaps we had a little
Breathing Space
for our democracy and for the world as we face so many challenges.
It was one of those brief spells of complete happiness that come once in a rare while, an unlooked for gift of God, when the forces of darkness, of sorrow and temptation seem miraculously held back, a breathing space in the battle.

I try not to believe that I know what is best and to accept that others see the world differently than I do. But I have had such a hard time with the lies that I’ve seen told again and again in election advertisements about “stealing the 2020 election” and other untruths. The mean tone of so many political ads felt so destructive to me. I could not listen to the venom that so many of them spread, even through tone of voice.
So this morning I went to my catalog of photos from the past 3 years to find photos that expressed how I had been feeling before the election and how I’m feeling now.
This was me before the election…
And another photo that expresses how I felt before the election called, “It’s all in our hands.”
And finally here are some photos about how I’m feeling this morning. I hope you too are finding a little breathing space in your life today.
May you walk in beauty.
