It seems that everywhere I look I see vivid colors across the landscape — reds, oranges, bright yellows, and still many shades of green.
It’s a Feast for the Eyes!
I believe that the seasonal changes that we have here in Minnesota, along with the many trees in our landscape, are food for my soul. If everything was the same each day I think I would get a bored, even if the colors were like they are right now. But the movement from bare trees and snow covered ground in winter to the land waking up and beginning to bud and bloom in spring to summer’s lush greens, and fall’s vivid colors keeps me engaged with the landscape year round.
Song of Autumn
Don’t you imagine the leaves dream now
how comfortable it will be to touch
the earth instead of the
nothingness of the air and the endless
freshets of wind? And don’t you think
the trees, especially those with
mossy hollows, are beginning to look forthe fires that will come—six, a dozen—to sleep
inside their bodies? And don’t you hear
the goldenrod whispering goodbye,
the everlasting being crowned with the first
tuffets of snow? The pond
stiffens and the white field over which
the fox runs so quickly brings out
its long blue shadows. The wind wags
its many tails. And in the evening
the piled firewood shifts a little,
longing to be on its way.— Mary Oliver
Sunday we drove around Lake Minnetonka just to see the colorful trees along the way. And today I took a short walk at French Regional Park before my weekly grocery trip to the Food Coop. I am soaking up the sunshine and these warm days this week before the weather turns colder again.
Each day I practice staying present and aware of the beauty of now. There is no other moment after all, than the present moment. If I spend my time moaning or worrying about what is to come, I am letting precious opportunities to experience joy slip through my fingers.
How about you? What brings you joy today?
May you walk in beauty.
