I awoke this morning to dark skies. And before long I could hear the rumbling of thunder in the distance. In that moment I felt my heart fill with

Rainy Day Gratitude

Let it rain! Let it rain! Let it rain!

The birds are flocking the feeders outside my office window today. It seems that the rain is not bothering them either.

I know it may not be fun for those who work Monday  through Friday for today, Saturday, to be a rainy day. But given the drought we’ve been experiencing (which is nothing like the drought other areas of the country are experiencing), we need the rain and I am thankful for it.

Here is a poem by (who else) Mary Oliver about the rain for you to enjoy today.

Last Night the Rain Spoke to Me
Last night
the rain
spoke to me
slowly, saying,
what joy
to come falling
out of the brisk cloud,
to be happy again
in a new way
on the earth!
That’s what it said
as it dropped,
smelling of iron,
and vanished
like a dream of the ocean
into the branches
and the grass below.
Then it was over.
The sky cleared.
I was standing
under a tree.
The tree was a tree
with happy leaves,
and I was myself,
and there were stars in the sky
that were also themselves
at the moment
at which moment
my right hand
was holding my left hand
which was holding the tree
which was filled with stars
and the soft rain –
imagine! imagine!
the long and wondrous journeys
still to be ours.
— Mary Oliver

Wishing you a beautiful rainy weekend.

May you walk in beauty.
