I cannot think of anything more worthwhile in life than to go out
In Pursuit of Wonder
Wonder is a feeling of curiosity and appreciation inspired by something beautiful, unfamiliar, or inexplicable.
Look at everything always as though you were seeing it either for the first or last time: Thus is your time on earth filled with glory.
― A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
One of the things that falling in love with photography has done for me, is to help me experience wonder again and again simply by looking closely at this world of ours.
I don’t need to travel to an exotic place or to seek out the seven wonders of the world. There are plenty of wonders all around me here, now.
Yesterday I discovered a spider spinning a web in between the screen and sliding glass door to the deck.
Wonder!
Though I’m not fond of spiders it was fascinating to see the spider wrapping up it’s catch of the day in gossamer webs.
When I go out for walks I am constantly bending over and looking closely at whatever is growing nearby. And sometimes I turn around just to see what things look like from another perspective.
Gazing at the night sky when out in the countryside where there is less ambient light always makes my heart leap. When I spent several months in Hawaii many years ago, I lived out in an old plantation village in the countryside with little ambient light. Each night when I looked up at the starry sky I felt such wonder and delight.
I think us here to wonder, myself. To wonder. To ask. And that in wondering bout the big things and asking bout the big things, you learn about the little ones, almost by accident. But you never know nothing more about the big things than you start out with. The more I wonder, the more I love.
― The Color Purple
Wonder is worth pursuing.
Do you go out in pursuit of wonder too? If not, perhaps today is a good day to begin.
May you walk in beauty.
Note: Lots of playing around with photos today with impressionistic approaches and layering images together.
