My black raspberries are going to be ripening in a week or two (I hope). Though there is only a small crop of berries, I cherish every single one of them.
So this morning found me
In The Weeds
clearing out a lot of weeds that had grown up around them. This will make picking the berries much easier and more pleasant. It was a good morning to spend in the backyard, being neither too hot nor too humid.
I also took a long bike ride this morning before I weeded around the raspberry bushes. Between the two activities I am pooped! But I’m also celebrating that I am able to enjoy bike rides and weeding in the garden.
Because I’ve been working hard in physical therapy to get out of pain most of the spring (I graduated from PT last week, at least for awhile — yay!), I don’t take moving my body without pain for granted.
A morning-glory at my window satisfies me more than the metaphysics of books.

Though there is much to mourn and to work to change in the world there is also much to celebrate and appreciate. Whether it’s being able to move your body without pain or spending time in nature, I encourage you to find what brings you joy and gratitude.
As a side note- don’t you find it remarkable, Katy, that the whole world can be involved in this madness we call war, and all the while the flowers and the bees and the seasons keep on doing what they must, wise but never weary in their wait for humanity to come to its senses and remember the beauty of life? It is queer, but my love and longing for the world are always deepened by my absence from it; it’s wondrous, don’t you think, that a person can swing from despair to gleeful hunger, and that even during these dark days there is happiness to be found in the smallest things?”
― The Secret Keeper
Practice seeing beauty in simple moments. Count your blessings. Soak up the sunshine, green all around, and warm days of summer. Hug a friend. Play a game.
I dream of a world where we savor the simple pleasures. A world where we recognize the joy in the mundane. A world where we remember happiness can be found not only in winning an award or manifesting our dreams, but also in hugging a dear friend and playing with a small child.
Life is too short to miss the beauty and wonder of it all.
May you walk in beauty.
