Yesterday afternoon I drove out to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum to walk in the wildflower gardens and the woods.

Searching for Spring

I was looking for signs of wildflowers emerging. There were a few tiny patches of green on the woodland floor, but far fewer than I expected. And though the sun was shining all morning, as I walked in the early afternoon the sun began hiding under more and more clouds.

The deep roots never doubt spring will come.”
Marty Rubin

I heard an owl hooting in the tall trees as I walked. Though I tried to locate it, I wasn’t able to. Still, I enjoyed listening to it’s whoo-whoo-ing. Later I heard a woodpecker drilling in one of the tall trees near the path. Robins searched for something to eat in the leaf litter under the trees. The birds are also searching for spring, I think.

The air felt cooler than I expected. And I found bits of snow at the base of tree trunks and sometimes on the tree trunks. I wished that I had worn a hat to keep my ears warm and gloves to warm my hands.

It felt like an April Fool’s joke. But still I loved being out in the woods. And I enjoyed making photographs of the few tiny green spots I found.

The seasons turn. But they do so in their own time. Each year I hope for an early spring. Often I am disappointed. If early springs happened each year they would no longer be early.

It’s spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you’ve got it, you want—oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!
Mark Twain

It seems that this year spring is taking her sweet time. So I will be patient and find ways to enjoy this in between time. And I will be grateful for small blessings.

Wishing you a beautiful weekend my friends.

May you walk in beauty.
