Sunrise at the pond, early spring

Sunrise

I woke up just after sunrise today — in time to see the bare trees across the pond painted gold in the radiant early morning light. The beauty of it all took my breath away. I spent just a moment picking up my camera and switching lenses. Already the gold was fading. Seconds after I made the photo above, the gold had disappeared. Its transience reminded me to

Cherish This Day

— each and every moment of it.

To pay attention, this is our endless and proper work.”― Mary Oliver

Yesterday we had a gentle cold rain for most of the afternoon and evening. I was happy to watch the gentle rain fall because I had scattered grass seed in a bare area of the lawn the evening before, hoping that the predicted long soaking rain would arrive.

Today’s sunshine, blue skies and warmer temperatures are also welcome. I’m looking forward to a warm walk outside this afternoon in the neighborhood.

Instructions for living a life. Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it. — Mary Oliver

Small pleasures but great joy. When I cherish (treat with affection and tenderness; hold dear) the day, I experience more joy.

Ten Thousand Things

The Big Bang is

still happening.

From nothing springs

ten thousand things —

starlings and eagles,

mitochondria and

mountain breezes,

gallows and galaxies.

When I am open,

uninterrupted creativity

flows through me,

shaping  life at the

speed of light

or inviting me

to rest in silence.

I hope that you, too, can cherish this day and each day.

May you walk in beauty.
