I found a video this morning by Minneapolis singer, Barbara McAfee, that made me say,

Yes!

I hope it brings a smile to you as well.

If you’d like to read the back-story about the crystal canoe in the video, check out this lovely post in the website Daily Good: The Spirit of Yes.

In the spirit of saying yes, I am still painting/drawing/making collages in my 100 painting challenge to myself. But I am giving myself more space between working on paintings. During the past week I’ve discovered that an every other day or even every third day rhythm keeps me happy to come back to painting again without feeling obligated to “do something” each day.

Yes to a New (to me) Work Table

I have a new work table in my office. It’s a lovely maple dining table that we bought on Craigslist from a woman who was leaving her house to move into a retirement apartment. We didn’t need a new table but did need some additional chairs for our maple dining table. Some of our chairs were coming unglued and a couple of them had broken spindles between the legs of the chairs.

I looked around for someone to re-glue and repair the chairs we have and all the estimates I received had a price of about $250 to re-glue a single chair. Wow! To re-glue all of our chairs would cost $1500. Jon had the brilliant idea of looking on Craigslist for a table with chairs that would be similar to ours but in better shape, thinking that we would use the chairs and try to resell the table or give it away. We bought a beautiful maple table with two pull-out leafs and 6 beautiful chairs for less than $200.

Love at First Sight

When I saw the table I fell in love with it and decided that it would work perfectly in my office as a painting/work table (covered with a protective plastic table cloth of course).

It’s a funny thing. The folding table I was using before was perfectly adequate to meet my needs. But this table feels special to me. She (I know it’s a she, don’t ask me why) is made of solid beautiful maple and has seen many loving family dinners. And I think she’s happy to be my new art table as well. Whimsical? Perhaps. But it feels true and I can’t wait to begin my painting today after I finish writing this post.

“May you breathe easy.

May your heart be light

May you open your life to each joy, each delight.

May you walk with assurance that your way is blessed.

May you dwell in the spirit of YES.”

– Barbara McAfee

Have a beautiful yes-filled day!

May you walk in beauty.
