Yesterday I visited my beloved Wolsfeld Woods for a long hike under the wise old sugar maple and oak trees. Midway in my walk I found a fallen tree to sit on. After I sat down I removed my shoes and simply sat with my feet touching the earth,

Grounding

my body in the energy field of the earth. It felt so good that I stayed sitting like that for at least half an hour. enjoying the colors of the leaves all around and communing quietly with nature. This portion of the woods was far enough off the beaten path that I had complete solitude. No other humans intruded on my meditations.

“Feeling rooted in the earth is soothing to the body, and it is our connection to the earth that gives us our most basic sense of belonging, home, resilience, and safety.”
Jessica Moore

The breeze rustled the leaves of the towering trees and every so often a leaf or two drifted slowly to the ground. Such peace!

“The foot feels the foot when it feels the ground.”

   — Gautama Buddha

It felt so good having my feet touch the earth that if the soil had been less damp and cool, I think I would have left my shoes off and hiked with bare feet for awhile.

“It is only by grounding our awareness in the living sensation of our bodies that the ‘I Am,’ our real presence, can awaken.” ~ G. I. Gurdjieff

When was the last time your bare feet touched the earth? Maybe it would be a good time to try a little barefoot time before winter sets in.

May you walk in beauty. (hopefully barefoot some of the time)
