The rain has been steadily falling most of the day and it continues to fall. I spent the day revisiting photographs that I made between 2013 and 2014 and creating new abstract layered images from some of them. It’s already mid-afternoon and I just stopped my creative play to write this post.

Rainy Day Joy

I don’t have a lot to say having spent my day in solitary creative pursuits. As I work I am listening to classical cello music. Between the joyful creating and the beautiful music that I’m listening to this day feels like a most precious gift that I am giving myself. To do what I love and listen to music that I love while I work is sheer joy. My spirit soars along with the music.

What do you do on rainy days? Can you find a way to create an island of beauty, serenity, and joy for yourself?

Last Night the Rain Spoke to Me
Last night
the rain
spoke to me
slowly, saying,
what joy
to come falling
out of the brisk cloud,
to be happy again
in a new way
on the earth!
That’s what it said
as it dropped,
smelling of iron,
and vanished
like a dream of the ocean
into the branches
and the grass below.
Then it was over.
The sky cleared.
I was standing
under a tree.
The tree was a tree
with happy leaves,
and I was myself,
and there were stars in the sky
that were also themselves
at the moment
at which moment
my right hand
was holding my left hand
which was holding the tree
which was filled with stars
and the soft rain –
imagine! imagine!
the long and wondrous journeys
still to be ours.
