It’s Wednesday already friends. And I am recovering from a week-long bout of digestive troubles. So I’m not moving very quickly this week. Finally yesterday I was able to eat some homemade beef and potato soup and drink a cup of weak tea after several days of having nothing but a little toast and water. Today I plan to stay with the soup and maybe add in a banana or some applesauce. Small steps. Small blessings.

Though I’ve had these issues for most of my adult life, it seems that since I was sick last December/January with what I believe was COVID, I’ve had more digestive upsets than in the past many years. Perhaps it’s a coincidence or perhaps it’s another of the gifts of COVID that just keep on giving.

At any rate, today I am thankful for the many

Small Blessings in My Life

How sweet it is to be able to eat a delicious brothy beef soup with nothing in it but potatoes. Thank you, thank you! And for yesterday when I napped in the sun in my chair with Gracie napping in my lap, I give thanks. Sitting here without deep pain in my abdomen that radiates into my back is such a blessing. Thank you, thank you!

Mysteries, Yes

Truly, we live with mysteries too marvelous
   to be understood.

How grass can be nourishing in the
   mouths of the lambs.
How rivers and stones are forever
   in allegiance with gravity
while we ourselves dream of rising.
How two hands touch and the bonds will
   never be broken.
How people come, from delight or the
   scars of damage,
to the comfort of a poem.

Let me keep my distance, always, from those
who think they have the answers.

Let me keep company always with those who say
   “Look!” and laugh in astonishment,
   and bow their heads.

And for the freedom to take the time I need to heal without needing to worry about going to work or anything else, thank you. Today I plan to continue reading a book that I began last night. It captured me on the very first page (The Gauguin Connection by Estelle Ryan) and I’m looking forward to a good long read. I am so grateful for books and libraries and e-books that I can check out without needing to go to the library!

What small blessings in your life are you grateful for today?

May you walk in beauty.
