Happy Winter Solstice Everyone!
Now more than ever we need light. So
Let there be light!
I always feel like celebrating winter solstice because I know that finally we have seen the darkest days of the year. We are turning once more to the light as each day brings a few more minutes of daylight until summer solstice.
This year my hope is that we have also seen the darkest days of the pandemic and that slowly but surely we will find our way back to health and well-being for everyone in 2021. But unfortunately I fear that the darkest days of this pandemic are coming in January.
Many wish that things will magically be different in 2021. But I believe that things will only change when individuals change their behaviors and we all turn toward the light of compassion and love for one another.
Let us make this our turning point towards love and compassion and towards a more just and ecologically respectful society. And let us love ourselves and one another enough to act with love and compassion for all.

What would love do?
As you celebrate the holidays in whatever way you celebrate, remember to act with love and compassion for others. I often ask myself, “What would love do now?” I believe that right now that love would not gather with friends and family to celebrate, but rather stay home and connect via Zoom or telephone. Love would wear a mask and avoid going anywhere unnecessary. And love would give generously so that others may have food and shelter.
Sending light and love to everyone. May your holidays be joyous and bright. May we all enjoy and treasure beautiful celebrations with family in March or April or whenever we break the back of this deadly pandemic.
Think about what you will treasure after the pandemic…
I have been imagining sitting at a table in a coffee house with a dear friend. In my mind’s eye I see the steam rising from our cups of tea. I smell the wonderful fragrance of brewing coffee. And I hear the murmurs of quiet conversations and soft jazz music in the background.
And I’ve also been imagining regular family gatherings around our dining room table with laughter, conversations, and the clink of silverware and dishes.
Ahhh…simple things that I will never take for granted again.
Here is a beautiful blessing from John O’Donohue
A Blessing
May you awaken to the mystery of being here and enter the quiet immensity of your own presence.
May you have joy and peace in the temple of your senses.
May you receive great encouragement when new frontiers beckon.
May you respond to the call of your gift and find the courage to follow its path.
May the flame of anger free you from falsity.
May warmth of heart keep your presence aflame and may anxiety never linger about you.
May your outer dignity mirror an inner dignity of soul.
May you take time to celebrate the quiet miracles that seek no attention.
May you be consoled in the secret symmetry of your soul.
May you experience each day as a sacred gift woven around the heart of wonder.— John O’Donohue
It’s all about light my friends…
So be a light if you can and if not, look for the light and ask for help if you need it. Perhaps you might enjoy looking at the Great Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn that’s happening around solstice this year. Take time to look up at the beauty of the night skies. It is magical.
I plan to take the rest of this week off from writing blog posts. But I’ll be back the week after Christmas. Take care and be well my friends. Wishing you a joyous holiday season!
Let there be light!!!
May you walk in beauty.
And so it begins. This is my “late blooming” amaryllis bulb. I finally re-potted it in a large pot with better drainage and VOILA! I can see a bud beginning to peek out from between the layers of the bulb, even though no leaves have yet appeared.
