This morning I’ve been feeling

Gratitude for Hard Times

As I reflect on my life, much of who I have become has been due to the challenges I have faced in life. If everything had been easy and smooth going I wouldn’t be the person I am today. Every life has challenges. And the year of 2020 has brought countless challenges, sorrows, and difficulties to humanity.

“When we least expect it, life sets us a challenge to test our courage and willingness to change; at such a moment, there is no point in pretending that nothing has happened or in saying that we are not yet ready. The challenge will not wait. Life does not look back. A week is more than enough time for us to decide whether or not to accept our destiny.”
Paulo Coelho, The Devil and Miss Prym

I have been astonished by people’s meanness, selfishness, and ability to accept lies as truth this year. And at the same time I see the heroic efforts by so many to care for others despite the risk of becoming ill themselves.

Though it’s not something I welcome into my life I’ve learned many lessons from hurt, pain, and difficulty. So though the year of 2020 is not a year I would choose to repeat, my deepest hope is that in the end it brings positive change to the earth.

I encourage you to think about how hard times may have shaped you as well. What have you learned? Are you kinder to others because you were ostracized as a child? Did you gain wisdom from challenges that you faced?

Don’t waste time wishing things were different. Look for ways to grow and thrive despite the challenges.

“Sometimes the darkest challenges, the most difficult lessons, hold the greatest gems of light.”
Barbara Marciniak, Family of Light: Pleiadian Tales and Lessons in Living

Can you also find it in your heart to feel gratitude for hard times?

May you walk in beauty.
