Birds in tree, Wood Lake Nature Center

This morning I listened to a meditation by Jack Kornfield. In it he helped listeners focus their attention on sound and a mind

As Wide As the Sky

I love the feeling of expansiveness I get when I imagine mind as wide as the sky. Thoughts and sounds become clouds floating through a sea of consciousness. I am able to let go for awhile of worries about what is happening in our country and around the world. And I remember that the only time there really is, is now.

“You are the sky. Everything else – it’s just the weather.”
Pema Chödrön

As this fall progresses and we experience one concerning event after another I find that I need to empty my mind of worry and anxiety and let everything float like clouds floating through the sky.

Just one thought. And another. Breathing in I know that I am breathing in. Breathing out I know that I am breathing out.

Poem of the One World

This morning

the beautiful white heron

was floating along above the water

and then into the sky of this

the one world

we all belong to

where everything

sooner or later

is part of everything else

which thought made me feel

for a little while

quite beautiful myself.

   — Mary Oliver, A Thousand Mornings

If you too, are struggling with the events taking place in our world, try imagining your mind as wide as the sky. Let your worries and thoughts scud through your wide sky mind like clouds. Focus on one breath, then the next.

Have a lovely Sunday friends.

May you walk in beauty.

Note: These are some of the photos I made while I was taking my “stay-cation” and not writing blog posts. They are from several different parks and trails.
